Hey! My name is Karen Hawkwood, also known as KJ Sassypants. I’m a Master Certified Coach and an archetypal astrologer, and I seem to have a knack for “seeing underneath” to what’s really at the heart of people. I also love seeing how to weave together apparent contradictions into a vibrant and fascinating whole, whether that’s inside you or in your business.
I’ve always had a fairly nerdy love of technology as well as a great passion for people, so First Five Things is actually a long-held dream for me – finding ways for tech to really help people help other people! Lots of the helping going on here. 🙂
I talk to our clients to see how we can best help them, and I do that “weaving together apparent opposites” thing before handing them off to Malyn and Cliff to make all that come to life. When I’m not busy helping people to help people and all that, I study how people work (yes, recreationally, I know it’s a bad sign), color, and play with my dogs.
I love finding unhappy customers and making them happy customers, and helping happy customers become ecstatic customers, and I’ve spent a few decades doing exactly that in both restaurants and technology companies. I’ve been a Customer Service and Training Manager in both small and large organizations, and running restaurants is really the same thing – I’m in charge of the customer’s experience, and finding every tiny thing that can make that experience better.
So that’s my job at FFT – helping you be the happiest customer possible, and also helping you help YOUR customers be happy little campers. (Happiness would be my theme.) I help get you set up, and then make absolutely sure that you’ve got everything you need to charge out into the world and do what it is you do!
I love to learn new things, take on new challenges, and see what’s possible that didn’t seem possible. The two questions I always come back to when I feel stuck are “What If?” and “Why Not?”–whether I’m woodworking, working with a tutoring student, or finding out how to make something possible for a First Five Things client that I didn’t know could be done on a website. In my downtime, I like to go on all kinds of adventures–kayaking and hiking are my current favorites.
I get to be the one to set up your tech tools and make sure they all play nicely together and look spiffy. Along the way, I guide you through the parts that need your attention so that you can forge ahead with confidence and joy as you see it all come together. And when we’re done, I’ll be cheering for you as you move forward, shining brightly and bringing your magic, whatever that looks like, into the world that needs it so very much.
